Coimbatore: Consultants to study infrastructure needs

The Coimbatore Corporation issued on Thursday orders to a New Delhi-based consultancy firm and another in Hyderabad to make a study of infrastructure needs of the city and prepare cost estimates for schemes under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
The orders were handed over to the representatives of the firms at a meeting where they made a presentation on schemes for waste management, underground drainage and the rehabilitation of the urban poor living in the slums.
Adviser of Infrastructure Professionals Enterprises in New Delhi P.U. Asnani and Director Amit Sardhana made presentations on solid waste management and on providing basic amenities to the urban poor. S.M. Zubani of National Consultant for Planning and Engineering, Hyderabad, spoke on the underground drainage scheme. The presentations were made in the presence of Rural Industries Minister Pongalur N. Palanisamy, Mayor R. Venkatachalam, Deputy Mayor N. Karthik, Corporation Commissioner P. Muthuveeran and office-bearers of voluntary organisations such as Siruthuli and Residents Awareness Association of Coimbatore.
