IIT off-campus to be setup in Palakkad

250 acres of land has been identified in Kanjikode near Palakkad to start an off-campus center of Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. Nearly 300 acres of land is available readily for immediate occupation. The Kanjicode area is very close to Coimbatore.

Technical University in Coimbatore

Anna University, Chennai will set up two regional technical universities in Coimbatore and Trichy. They will be named Anna University, Coimbatore and Anna University, Trichy.
A total of 53 engineering colleges in Coimbatore, Salem, Erode, Dindigul, Karur, Nilgiris, Dharamapuri, Krishnagiri, Namakkal and Theni districts will be affiliated to Anna University, Coimbatore. The new university will be independent and have separate a vice-chancellor.

Rolon cars and Coimbatore

Coimbatore is famous for its machinery and textile industries. The composites parts of cars which are manufactured in India are initially manufactured in Coimbatore. Formula LGB is a motorsport held in India. Races for the National Championship are held at Coimbatore's Kari Motor Speedway and also at Chennai's Irrugatukottai track.
The ROLON car is designed and built by Coimbatore based B.Vijaykumar for LG Sports, Coimbatore. Mr.Vijaykumar is a ex-racer himself and managing director of LG Balakrishnan & Bros. LG Sports is planning to introduce the Formula Rolon cars in Bangladesh, Pakistan, Malaysia and other South East Asian countries. Mr.Vijaykumar has tied up with General Motors and GM will supply engines to the ROLON cars. These new cars will run in tracks present in Coimbatore, Chennai, Goa and other cities.

Coimbatore : CAT for the first time

This year Coimbatore became the newest center for the all India level entrance exam for admissions to the top business schools. Although Coimbatore has more educational institutions than many other major cities in India, the authorities have approved Coimbatore's request to host the exams only this year. Around 3000 students appeared for the test this year and about 10 students from Coimbatore are expected to make it through to the IIM's. Chennai is the only other center in Tamil Nadu besides Coimbatore.

Coimbatore :Wipro conducts recruitment drive

In a recruitment drive conducted by software major Wipro Technologies in Coimbatore around 250 students were recruited. The selected students would be trained at the Wipro Acamedy of Software Excellence where the recruited students would be trained by faculty members from Birla Institute of Technology and Science. Coimbatore has immense potential in to supply the manpower to the industry and it is one of the most important destinations for the major recruiting companies like Wipro.

Coimbatore: Consultants to study infrastructure needs

The Coimbatore Corporation issued on Thursday orders to a New Delhi-based consultancy firm and another in Hyderabad to make a study of infrastructure needs of the city and prepare cost estimates for schemes under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
The orders were handed over to the representatives of the firms at a meeting where they made a presentation on schemes for waste management, underground drainage and the rehabilitation of the urban poor living in the slums.
Adviser of Infrastructure Professionals Enterprises in New Delhi P.U. Asnani and Director Amit Sardhana made presentations on solid waste management and on providing basic amenities to the urban poor. S.M. Zubani of National Consultant for Planning and Engineering, Hyderabad, spoke on the underground drainage scheme. The presentations were made in the presence of Rural Industries Minister Pongalur N. Palanisamy, Mayor R. Venkatachalam, Deputy Mayor N. Karthik, Corporation Commissioner P. Muthuveeran and office-bearers of voluntary organisations such as Siruthuli and Residents Awareness Association of Coimbatore.
